Not everybody knows that in the beautiful tranquillity of the Dorchester Lagoon, there are two sailing clubs, the main dinghy sailing club and the model sailing club. The model sailing club was formed over 15 years ago by dinghy members who were interested in model boats, their construction and sailing.
We are self-sufficient and sail on Thursday afternoons, gathering from 1.30pm and finishing in the summer by 5pm and dusk in the winter months.
The recent new clubhouse has underfloor heating and good viewing of the lake. There is an excellent, stable pontoon and radio waves will operate our boats from within the clubhouse if required.
Because we sail mid-week, most of our members are senior citizens (male and female). Current classes sailed are 1-metre, Fiesta, Laser, Marblehead and Footie, but all are welcome.
We have our rescue boat and a club rule requires that buoyancy aids be worn on the pontoon.
If you are interested, please contact John Barker (01367 250313) for a chat, or just turn up on a Thursday to see what we do. We will help you all we an and maybe this could be a new interest for you to enjoy.
